Andrew Tripp is a UK-born, Vancouver-based photographer specializing in black-and-white fine art photography and illustrative portraiture. He accepts both commercial and private commissions, preferring clients who are looking for a more artistic approach to portraiture and are not afraid to experiment stylistically. He has photographed for numerous magazines and other publications during a twenty year career, and brings a sense of adventure and creative desire to each portrait session. Additionally, Andrew has a great passion for moody black-and-white landscape photography, as well as imagery that is conceptual in its basis. "Photography, for me, has always been a means of self-discovery and expression, as well as a basic appreciation of the visual world and the quality of light. Each photographic session poses new questions and opens new avenues into my perception and comprehension of my role within this mortal carnival. I'm not much of a writer, I can't paint or sculpt, and shyness has always prevented me from acting, yet I need a voice; a vehicle by which I can deliver my thoughts and feelings to anyone willing to listen, and photography has long been that voice. Has anybody heard it? It's hard to say, yet I know I will continue "talking" 'til my stay here is over... As a commercial photographer, I favour editorial-style portraiture, which allows me a certain freedom of expression, as well as an opportunity to collaborate with my subjects. In my personal work, where I am often drawn to life’s darker side, I strive for those same qualities, leaving as much open to the viewer's interpretation as possible, while(hopefully) still communicating a clear, thoughtful message”.
